About Ami Goans

Ami Goans is a community platform created by Goans, for Goans, wherever in the world we may be.

For generations, Goans have travelled far from home to build a future, support their families and seek better opportunities. Some have settled in the United Kingdom, Europe, the Middle East, North America, Australia and beyond. Others work away from home or spend long periods at sea. For some families, the connection with Goa remains strong; for others, distance and time have made that connection harder to maintain.

Ami Goans exists to help keep that connection alive. Our aim is to bring together the people, villages, stories, traditions, food, music, faith, festivals, language, businesses and everyday memories that make Goa special, and to make that knowledge easier to discover and pass on to future generations.

This is more than a directory or an information website. We want it to become a living community archive and practical hub a place where a Goan arriving in a new country can find Goan-owned or Goan-relevant businesses, community events, useful contacts and job recommendations that may never appear prominently in a normal internet search.

Ami Goans wants every genuine Goan business to have an opportunity to be discovered by the community. Basic business listings are currently free. In the future, as the platform grows, we may introduce optional paid advertising and enhanced listing features any charges and terms will be clearly explained before they take effect, no business will be charged simply for having a basic listing, and no business will be moved to a paid option without choosing it.

Most importantly, we want the platform to be built with the community, not simply for the community. We invite Goans everywhere to contribute knowledge of their village, family stories, photographs, recipes, traditions, historical memories, community events and other information that deserves to be preserved.

Ami Goans is an independent community project. It is not externally funded, sponsored or controlled by any business, organisation or private backer. It was started by a Goan who misses Goa and understands the feeling of being far from home while wanting to stay connected to our roots. The platform is built in his own time, with hosting and running costs currently paid personally, simply to create something useful for Goans everywhere, strengthen our community, and help preserve our connection with Goa for future generations.

Some of the information on Ami Goans has been compiled as a starting point from sources such as Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, government publications, youtube and tourism or public-information websites where reuse is permitted. We're grateful for these sources, but the long-term goal is for the community itself to improve, correct and enrich this information with first-hand knowledge and properly sourced material.

Ami Goans is currently focused on building a trusted Goan community and improving the quality of its information.
